Help the Poor

In my last post, I talked about how the rich and famous have done their best to make sure that the lives of poor people are better than they were. Their donations, their support, and their words of advice are all very helpful in a way that the average person can’t understand (without even being aware of it). As we know now though, charities don’t always succeed. The government may take credit for any success in providing some kind of social benefit for others. This is why giving away money or food might not be such a good idea as long as you believe your donation is helping someone else’s life… or you get robbed on your watch!

When I’m talking to my family members about what I do with my free time, I get asked a lot these days if they think I should just give them stuff without asking anything in return. My answer to that question is “Hell yes” because you never know who will need something. But when you see the homeless people who live on the streets right beside us, you have no one to ask for a handout. You have nobody as important as anyone else, but in most cases, you see that same kid again next week. And so you think of yourself as saving other kids from having the same problems in life that you did. Don’t forget though, that your donations are not going into the pocket of someone else. They go into yours. That’s just a fact that everyone knows about.

I’ve been donating clothes and toys and money to a few organizations, but mostly those that work towards improving the living conditions of the poor. It has worked out pretty well for me, in my opinion. On top of that, many schools and churches are doing this, too. Kids coming to church and going to school every morning, then volunteering at a homeless shelter, and having a nice lunch with each other are all good deeds towards the world and their future. It is a fantastic thing to do. We need to do more than just say we give things, but do things to help others. Or they could say they want to help children and the people around them! Those people are looking at you to give them something! When it comes to donations, they don’t mind. After all, they are getting them for a great cause and they only ask for 5%. Most of them end up giving much less, but still making money. Sometimes it helps them buy new clothes or toys or donate something to someone else.

If you are reading this, maybe you feel bad about how difficult it is to be poor because you are thinking of what you do to help. Let me tell you though, you are far from alone. Our society is filled with poverty. Not enough jobs, no healthcare, little education, no good education. You see those that suffer most have no choice in what they can choose to do… just pick what they have to do and hope for the best. If you help the people like them, you are also contributing to the development of our country, which means we are getting a better tomorrow. Even with all the negatives, poverty still doesn’t seem to bother the ones that are doing everything to improve the situation and make their lives just a bit better. People that have nothing of value to offer are still very happy with themselves and very proud of themselves. They don’t care about who gets hurt because their self-worth is a lot higher than the rest of the world. They don’t care how they look, they don’t think about the environment, they do what makes them happy and make money in a way other people will see and love. Maybe in their daily routine, you feel they are just stuck, trying to survive. Sometimes you see that they are lucky as life is a heck of a lot better if you have a job. If you don’t have a job, you must work hard and try to survive. Some people think that when they are poor the best thing to do if that’s what they want to be is to become a bum. A bum that would be miserable, a bum that wouldn't go to school, a bum that would want to go back home... That's very different from what the whole experience is! I mean, a bum is a bum and that's it! That's just it, nothing else, nothing in this universe matters, and nothing else can make you happy except having a job! Well... as soon as you get a job you start feeling lazy and sad. You start wondering if you'll be able to earn a decent wage, if someone would take care of you, or if you would ever stop getting fired. Then you decide that if you had one last job it would be for a few years, you would find a stable income, get a house, and eat healthy foods... A life where you would just stop worrying about anything...

Donations do this by finding somebody else in need. Nobody knows about your donations until you say it to them, and they realize you need something!

Just wait and see how their life turns out. Maybe it would make a difference, maybe not, but the most important is they can try to make their own and better choices. Now that's what gives my heart and what keeps me going in today, everyday life!
